Best Sledding Destinations in Canada

Among the many benefits of both visiting and living in Canada is superior sledding. And just like there are endless stretches of beaches in the Caribbean, there are countless snowmobile destinations in The Great White North. Here are just a few of our favorite Canadian trails.

The Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail – At 463km, the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail is nearly as long as it’s history: as California’s gold rush came to an end in the 1850s, the next great frontier was British Columbia. This scenic trail starts in the south near 70 Mile House and extend through the foothills of the Cariboo Mountains to Horsefly in the north.

Gaspe Peninsula – Pictures don’t do this sledding mecca justice. With seaside views and endless mountains, the peninsula offers over 2000km of remarkable trails. One of the best ways to experience the Gaspe Peninsula is to head on the Bas-Saint-Laurent-Gaspesie Tour, which takes ten days to complete and takes you to mountain tops all while providing beautiful vistas of the St. Lawrence.

Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean – 200km north of Quebec City lies what’s accurately described as a snowmobiler’s paradise in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean area. With ample lodging, you can take your time touring the lake and also explore the summits of Monts-Valin, which has three 300km marked trails and over 22 weeks of snow each season. Don’t forget to stop in and say hi to Saguenay Bill at the Delta Hotel in Jonquiere.

New Brunswick’s Northern Odyssey – Take everything you thought you knew about sledding in the Maritimes and throw it out the window. Along this 1500km loop, you’ll take in majestic bays and tall peaks. Plus, you’ll earn an authentic Acadian experience discovering places like Bathurst, Campbellton, Miramichi and Edmundston without repeating any trails.

Ontario’s Algonquin Park Area – Check out the RAP (Round Algonquin Park) Tour to find some of Ontario’s best sledding. From hairpin turns through forests, to high speeds in vast flatlands, the scenery of the rugged Canadian Shield is utterly spectacular here.
